Dr. Gayle Maguire

BSc, ND, Acupuncture, Prolotherapy, Craniosacral Therapy

Gayle knew she wanted to enter medicine from a young age though struggled initially to decide between the different specialities. At 15 years old, she first learned about naturopathic medicine which appealed to her desire to help people feel better by listening to patient symptoms and getting to the root of the issue. She completed her Science degree at the University of Manitoba and realised during her training at the Canadian College of Naturopathic Medicine, that naturopathic doctors can help support conventional medicine. Gayle loves helping patients who know something is not working optimally in their body and need professional guidance in interpreting the messages from their body.

Shortly after starting to practice in 2006, Gayle also began teaching and eventually serving as Dean of Academics at the Canadian Institute of Traditional Chinese Medicine. Expanding on her passion for acupuncture, Gayle has taken additional training in cosmetic acupuncture, intravenous nutrition, prolotherapy, and craniosacral therapy.

Gayle was a long-time presenter at the Calgary Public Library and Mommy Connections and regular contributor to community newsletters in her early days of practice. In 2015, Gayle was published as a co-author on a journal article for health in teenagers. More recently, she spends her time helping to organise the annual conference for naturopathic doctors in Alberta, by serving on the competency committee for the CNDA, and by volunteering with Play-It-Forward Projects.

Her approach to patient care is grounded, with an interest in long-term sustainable plans that use a minimalist approach with supplements by including lifestyle recommendations, diet, stress and sleep supports. Her passion is treating children and hormonal, stress, and thyroid disorders, particularly in peri-menopausal and menopausal women.

She is happy mother of three, so when not busy enjoying them and their activities (lots of soccer and hockey!), she can be found in the garden and experimenting with carpentry.
